In an exclusive interview on RTE Radio One’s Countrywide, which airs this morning, the no-frills airline boss confirmed he won’t be following in the footsteps of Samoa Air, which has introduced the practice of charging overweight travellers — but it’s not out of the goodness of his heart. “We operate big aircraft and frankly it would slow things down too much if you were weighing every passenger. With a 25 minute turnaround you need to operate on average weight. Passengers want low fares but they also want flights on time, so we can’t be wasting time weighing people.”
